Roll up Garage Doors How To Safely Install Them

10/24/2013 Back To Blog

Among the different garage door opener variants sold in stores today, residential roll up garage doors are among the most sought-after. These variants are popular because they eat up less space as compared to other units and they are the best option for taller garage openings. These door openers are often made up of a lot of small sections, which are joined into one big unit, and once opened will roll overhead into a tight coil. Here's how to safely install a roll-up garage opener.

Place The Door Panel In The Doorway

The first step in installing this type of garage opener would be to do the measurements, and place the panels you purchased on the doorway, with the right side facing out. Next, safely attach the door hinges according to the manufacturer's guidelines. Also make sure that you safely screw or hammer the door opener's brackets, rollers and other components onto the first panel, as well as align the vertical track with the door rollers on both sides of the door.

Connect The 1st and 2nd Panel Doors

After attaching the hinges and screws on the two panels, ask for help in lifting the panel above the garage door panels, and align the rollers on the door with the vertical track. Use a power drill that has a screwdriver tip for connecting the 1st and 2nd panel doors, for proper roll up garage door installation.

Support The Opener By Installing a Track Hanger

After lifting the roll up garage door opener's panels and aligning them with the track, the next step would be to ensure the door's stability by attaching the track's horizontal and curved pieces, and screwing them firmly in place. The track hanger must also be installed to support the tracks' horizontal section. Follow your product manufacturer's instructions for doing this.
